Battle of Ramsour’s Mill Living History Weekend
From 9:00 am to 2:00 pmThe Battle of Ramsour’s Mill Living History Weekend commemorates the June 20, 1780 Battle of Ramsour’s Mill, when Whigs met Tories on a hillside just outside the little town of Lincolnton. This year, the commemoration will take place the weekend of June 17 & 18, 2023 beginning with the laying of wreaths at the resting place of some 70 unknown in a grave near Battleground Elementary School. It will be followed at 1 by keynote speaker George Washington. In between, hearth cooking demonstrations by the Lincoln County Hearth Cooks, reenactments and weapons demonstrations, a militia encampment, tours, heritage demonstrations, and period crafts. Suitable for all ages, and FREE. IN THE EVENING, JUNE 3 AND 4: Learn all about the battle from the voices who lived it. Ghost Walks with the cast of Thunder Over Carolina, Inc., cost is $10 at the entrance; 6 and under free. FRIDAY, JUNE 16 Patriot’s Gala commemorating the 243rd Anniversary of the Battle of Ramsour’s Mill. 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Cultural Center, 403 E. Main St., Lincolnton. Keynote speaker will be author Daniel Barefoot. Tickets are $35 available at LCC.booktix.com. Rooms for the weekend are set aside for the Sons of the American Revolution at $124 per night at The Hampton Inn in Lincolnton. SATURDAY, JUNE 4 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Crafts, demonstrations, and encampments are open all day. 10 a.m. Gather at the mass gravesite on the hill and join the Sons of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Revolution as they lay wreaths to the unknown soldiers buried there. 201 Jeb Seagle Drive, Lincolnton.
